What type of toothbrush should I use?

We recommend a soft toothbrush that fits your mouth comfortably, allowing you to reach all areas easily. Medium or hard-bristle toothbrushes can cause erosion of the teeth or gum recession. Gum recession leads to sensitivity and can create discomfort when brushing or consuming hot and cold beverages.

Both manual and electric toothbrushes are effective. Some individuals who have difficulty using a manual toothbrush may find that an electric toothbrush works better for them. No matter what type of toothbrush you use, we recommend that you brush at least twice daily using a fluoride toothpaste. A quick once-over is not enough. Spending at least thirty seconds in each quadrant of your mouth will ensure that you reach all areas adequately.

To ensure that the spaces between your teeth get clean, we also recommend daily use of floss or an interdental cleaner. Make sure that you replace your toothbrush every three to four months or when the bristles look frayed and worn! Replacing your toothbrush every two to three months is a good rule of thumb.

Tongue brushing or scraping can be effective in eliminating bacteria and bad breath. We can recommend products to help you get rid of bad breath and periodontal disease.
