Invisalign vs. Traditional Braces

Invisalign Belton MO

Your smile is often the first thing someone notices about you, so having crooked teeth can make you want to hide your smile. While braces can help straighten teeth for a more cohesive smile, most teens and adults don’t want unsightly and uncomfortable metal braces for two years. This is why Dr. Ian Kuklenski offers his patients in the Belton, MO area the Invisalign treatment.

Why Choose Invisalign

More comfortable – The Invisalign treatment uses smooth plastic trays that are custom fitted to your teeth for a more pain-free experience. They are also removable so if you are feeling too much discomfort you can take them out. The metal wires used with traditional braces can become slack and will need to be tightened about once a month which can cause pain and soreness. The brackets and wires can also snap and stab you in the mouth until you can see your orthodontist to get them repaired.

More attractive – Since the alignment trays are made of clear plastic, when you are wearing them they will be nearly invisible making them more ideal for adults. Traditional braces can be embarrassing to wear since the metal brackets and wires stand out against your teeth when you smile.

Fewer restrictions – Those who have traditional braces will need to avoid certain foods that can damage the brackets such as sticky foods, candies, corn on the cob, and apples. Invisalign trays must be removed whenever you consume anything, except for water, so you won’t have any restrictions on what you can or cannot eat. Yet, it is still important to brush after every meal so you put your alignment tray on clean teeth.

Less dental visits – Metal braces will need to be tightened at least once a month, and you will have to see your dentist even more often if you experience any problems with popping wires. Invisalign trays only need to be switched out about once every two weeks and your dentist will provide you with two sets so you only have to see your dentist for follow up visits once every four to six weeks.

Less time – With Invisalign, it can take an average of twelve to eighteen months before your teeth are moved into the right position. Traditional braces will need to be worn for about two years but can be longer for those with jaw misalignments.
